Comparable Vehicle Analysis Worksheet

When a vehicle is appraised for insurance purposes — whether for a total loss, actual cash value determination, or diminished value — professional appraisers typically examine comparable vehicles available in the relevant market. Comparable vehicles are similar vehicles identified through relevant market data, including vehicles offered for sale in the same or similar geographic market around the applicable valuation date.

Comparable vehicle analysis may consider factors such as year, make, model, trim, drivetrain, body configuration, engine, mileage, equipment, options, condition, vehicle history, geographic market, listing status, source, asking price, and relevant adjustments. The importance of each factor depends on the vehicle, the assignment, and the available market evidence.

This worksheet helps organize that evidence in a structured format. It does not calculate or determine the actual cash value of a vehicle. A professional appraisal considers comparability, market relevance, condition, mileage, equipment, history, and other evidence that a worksheet cannot fully capture.

Enter the loss vehicle information in the first section. Then enter information for each comparable vehicle you have identified. You may enter up to six comparables.

For each comparable, enter the available information including year, make, model, trim, mileage, market area, dealer or seller, listing source, asking price, relevant options, condition notes, and any adjustment notes. The Adjusted Indication field is optional — use it if you have a basis for an adjustment, but do not invent adjustments without a documented rationale.

The Worksheet Summary at the bottom calculates simple mathematical items: average asking price, median asking price, average mileage, and average adjusted indication (if entered). These are organizational summaries only — they are not appraisal conclusions.

Asking prices and mathematical averages do not independently establish the actual cash value of a vehicle. A professional appraisal may consider comparability, market relevance, condition, mileage, equipment, history, and other evidence that this worksheet cannot fully capture.

Not all listed vehicles are equally comparable. A professional appraiser evaluates the quality and relevance of each comparable — not just its asking price. Geographic market, listing source, condition, equipment differences, and other factors affect how much weight a comparable should receive.
